South Dakota Council on Developmental Disabilities
DHS - Council on Developmental Disibilities

Mission Statement -
To assist people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families in achieving the quality of life they desire through advocacy, systems change and capacity building.

March is Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month. The theme this year is:

People with developmental disabilities can be friends, neighbors, co-workers, volunteers, teammates, or classmates. During Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month, the Council encourages everyone to get to know someone with a disability and discover just what he or she Can Do, Like You! Recognize abilities and see that everyone has something to offer.

They’re artists. They run their own business. They vote. They go to school. They volunteer in the community. They’re people with disabilities who want a chance to show they have ABILITIES, too. During Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month, get to know someone with a disability and you’ll see just what they Can Do, Like You!

The Council is a member of the South Dakota Developmental Disabilities Network along with South Dakota Advocacy Services & the Center for Disabilities at the Sanford School of Medicine of the University of South Dakota.
