Assistive Technology Services

Assistive Technology means devices or services that allow a person with a disability to be employed or to increase independent living capabilities. Devices range from "low tech" devices such as Braille watches or magnifiers to "high tech" devices such as large print computer screens or computer systems with speech output. Services include training in use of devices.

Eligibility Requirements:

SBVI jointly reviews the need for assistive technology with every consumer who applies or is eligible for vocational rehabilitation or independent living services. In many cases SBVI may purchase devices as part of an Individual Plan for Employment (IPE).

Services Available:

Every individual who is eligible for services receives an assessment for assistive technology devices and services. Needed items may become a service in an Individual Plan for Employment. There are hundreds of devices available that may be required in an individual's rehabilitation.
