SD Low Vision Services
Low Vision Services are designed to benefit those persons whose ability to function in everyday tasks has
been compromised by impaired vision. Low vision services include a visual examination conducted by a trained
specialist in the field of low vision, assessment of visual functioning of individual needs and goals,
prescriptions for specialized low vision devices and individualized training.
Eligibility Requirements:
Any South Dakota youth or adult who is experiencing difficulties in life because of reduced visual acuities
is eligible to receive low vision services.
Services Available:
Training in the use of low vision devices and techniques to optimize visual functioning. Additional services
include on-site job assessments, rural clinics, consultation, funding options, in-service training and referrals
to other rehabilitation or medical professionals.
