Since January of 1996, all referrals are routed through the Division of Developmental Disabilities. All referrals that come from the Division of Developmental Disabilities to SDDC are based on the determination that our services are needed by the person.
All people served at SDDC qualify for funding through Medicaid (Title XIX). The cost for services are based on a cost per day basis that is recalculated every quarter.
There are currently approximately 145 people receiving services from SDDC. They range in age from 12 to 77 years old. Their disabilities range from very mild developmental disabilities to severely profound. The population at SDDC includes about 22% Native American , 72% Caucasian and less than 1% are African American/Caucasian, American Indian/African American, African American, Hispanic, Oriental or of Multiple Race decent.
SDDC is approved by the State Legislature for 417.1 full time equivalent’s or FTE’s.
SDDC opened in 1902 with a population of 45 people. All staff and people who lived at SDDC were housed in one building made of Sioux Falls granite. That building is still in use today as offices for staff.
