First Friday

The South Dakota Rehabilitation Center for the Blind (SDRC)  would like to invite any South Dakota residents, who have low vision or are blind, to participate in the upcoming May “First Friday” event to be held on May 4, 2018, and  feature the following:

8:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.

A.T. walk-in clinic 

Have questions about technology? Experienced staff can help answer those questions at the Walk-in Clinic .

1:00 p.m. -  3:00 p.m. (Must Register to Attend)

Low Vision Sewing

Learn about sewing and quilting with various techniques and devices.

SBVI Public Forum

The South Dakota Department of Human Services Division of Service to the Blind and Visually Impaired (SBVI) will be holding a public forum on May 5. The forum will include a discussion and a Q&A session regarding services offered through SBVI.

The forum will be held at the Adoba Eco Hotel located at 445 Mt. Rushmore Road in Rapid City from 4p.m. – 6p.m. (MDT).

Written comments and questions can be submitted by mail to: Division of Service to the Blind and Visually Impaired, 3800 E. Hwy. 34, c/o 500 E. Capitol Ave., Pierre, S.D. 57501. To request an interpreter or other accommodations for the public forum, please call 605-773-4644 or 1-800-265-9684. Requests for accommodations should be made at least one week prior to the public forum. 

The mission of SBVI is to provide individualized rehabilitation services that result in optimal employment and independent living outcomes for citizens who are blind or visually impaired.

 

2018 Governor's Award Nominations

The South Dakota Board of Vocational Rehabilitation, Board of Service to the Blind and Visually Impaired and the Statewide Independent Living Council are now accepting nominations for the 2018 Governor’s Awards.

The nomination categories are:

The deadline for submitting names for consideration is Friday, May 25.

Gov. Dennis Daugaard will recognize individuals and employers for their contributions to the rehabilitation and employment of South Dakotans with disabilities during a ceremony later this year.
