
Board of Service to the Blind and Visually Impaired
MISSION STATEMENT
The mission of the Board of Service to the Blind and Visually Impaired is to promote independence, employment, and full inclusion for all citizens who are blind or visually impaired.
The Board of SBVI is a 15-member advisory council appointed by the Governor to advise and guide SBVI in policy and program development. The board meets four times per year and the majority of members must be persons who are blind or visually impaired. All board meetings are open to the public, and the purpose of the board is to be representative of the constituency on matters impacting blindness.

Board Member Eligibility Requirements:
Members are appointed by the Governor. The Board of SBVI submits names for consideration after nominations are received from constituency groups. Board make-up must be over 50 percent individuals who are blind or visually impaired.
Board members represent the constituency, prepare an annual report, serve on sub-committees of interest, and represent the division at various functions.
